Established in the Fall of 2017, the Drone Apprenticeship Program (DAP) has trained over 800 students from ages 10 - 24 in Detroit, Michigan using "Line of Sight" and "First-Person View". The program provides the foundation and tools to operate a drone for in-demand employment opportunities, including Medical, Film and Entertainment, and Business. Students learn how to safely operate a drone and the various laws and regulations related to drone use.
The DAP is led by Darryl Bingham with a team of trained and professional staff. Since the program's inception, the staff are proud to have 100 percent of the students earn the TRUST Recreational Drone Safety Certificate.
Our program continues to be innovative by partnering with several organizations for workforce development experiences. This includes training high school students in Lean Six Sigma (White & Yellow Belt Level) by PDS, Google Data Analytics, Digital Marketing, Blueprint Reading, and OSHA 30. The program has also funded training for the FAA 107 UAV License and helped start two student-led businesses.
In addition, the Drone Workforce Development Program was established to provide students an opportunity for internships and externships where they can apply the knowledge they have acquired.
We continue to strive for excellence by hosting an Annual Drone Skills Challenge Competition and creating a business incubator program which currently mentors and supports businesses in Social Media Marketing, Cinematography/Film, Data Analytics, and Project Management.
